How to Help

We greatly appreciate vocal and written support from all members of the wider Brooklyn Friends School Community, including current and former parents, grandparents, and families; former and retired members of the colleague body; members of the larger Friends (Quaker) community; and fellow teachers and workers who are unionized or who desire to have a collective voice at the table. Here are some things you can do to help our cause:

  1. Donate to the Strike Fund.

  2. Sign the petition from the Labor-Religion Coalition of New York.

  3. If you are a BFS student, alum, parent, or former employee, please sign on to this open letter to Head of School Crissy Cáceres and the Board of Trustees.

  4. Write a letter of support for our union to Crissy Cáceres and the Board urging them to withdraw their petition to the NLRB to decertify our Union. Speak from your perspective and role in our community about how this move not only denies the rights of its employees to unionize, but also how it damages the reputation and bedrock values of the school's long history of seeking truth and justice and living with integrity. Send your letters to ccaceres@brooklynfriends.org and bfsboard@brooklynfriends.org. Please also send a copy of the letter to the union at bfsunion@2110uaw.org. For inspiration, check out some letters of support that have already been sent.

  5. Tag @bklynfriends and use the hashtag #BFSUnion on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) to show your support, get our message out, and encourage others. You can also use slogans such as “Friends Don't Let Friends Bust Unions” and “Union Busting is Disgusting.”

  6. BFS families can receive updates and learn about next steps by sending an email to 4bfscolleagues@gmail.com.
